How to Start a Blog on SiteGround – 4 Easy Steps

World of Freelancers contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase through these links, I will earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Are you a freelancer? If so, you should definitely start a blog.

A blog is the perfect way to get your name out there as a freelancer. When you have a blog, you have a way to make your brand visible. You can let people know about your freelance services and products. You help them see why you’re the right freelancer to hire.

A blog has to be hosted on a server at a hosting company. It is extremely important to choose a really good hosting company. The quality of your hosting company can really impact your experience as a blogger

A really good hosting company gives you excellent tech support and customer service. It places your website on a quality server so it will load quickly with very little downtime. This helps you run your blog efficiently without any problems.

A bad hosting company, on the other hand, will probably give you the opposite experience.

I’ve used three blog hosting companies throughout the years. By far the best has been SiteGround Hosting. They’ve given me everything I need to have a really great experience running my blog.

So that you can have a good experience as you start blogging, I’ll tell you the four easy steps you need to take to start your blog with SiteGround Hosting.

These four steps are easy and do not take long. Here is what you need to do in order to get your blog hosted on SiteGround Hosting.

Step 1. Go to SiteGround

Go to Here you’ll see four website hosting options. You’ll get shared hosting with both the Reliable Web Hosting and the Managed WordPress Hosting options. These two options actually have identical features, so choose whichever you wish.

Step 2. Choose your hosting package

Choose between SiteGround’s three hosting packages: StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek.

If you currently have, or plan to have more than one blog, choose the GrowBig plan. GrowBig is the plan I myself have. If you’re certain you’re going to have only one blog, choose the StartUp plan. Even if you think you might start another blog in the future, you can choose the StartUp plan for now and then switch later if necessary.

Step 3. Choose your domain name options

Now SiteGround will ask whether you already have a domain name and, if you do, whether you want to register it with SiteGround. In the box, type in the domain name you already own or the domain name you want to purchase from SiteGround.

When you learn how to start your freelance blog, here are SiteGround's choose a domain name page

If you already own a domain name, you’ll be asked now whether you want to register it with SiteGround or not. Whether you choose yes or no, the next page you’ll be taken to is the signup page. If you are buying a domain name from SiteGround, you’ll also be taken to the signup page now.

Step 4. Sign up

Once on the signup page, you’ll fill out your personal info including your payment info. On the signup page you’ll also get to choose in which of their six server locations you want your website to be hosted.

SiteGround has servers in:

  • Iowa, USA
  • Singapore, Asia
  • Sydney, Australia
  • London, UK
  • Frankfurt, Germany
  • The Netherlands, Europe

Choose the server location that is closet to the people who will be reading your blog.

On this page you’ll also get to choose for how long you want to sign up.

Each of the three hosting plans has a special price. If you want to get this special price, you’ll need to sign up for their 12-month plan and you’ll need to pay it in advance.

The special price is only for the first year. The price will go up when you renew. SiteGround is a premium web hosting company, so they are not cheap. Believe me, my experience has taught me that they are very well worth what they cost.
